Founded in 2020, in response to the Covid pandemic, the Empire State Bioethics Consortium is a not-for-profit membership organization of scholars, researchers, and practitioners dedicated to addressing ethical issues and inequities in health and health care across New York State.

In this video, prepared for ESBC, health law attorneys  with experience in bioethics summarize the provisions of New York's 2025 Medical Aid in Dying Act (as amended), and offer comments about the  law.

This document shows how NY's MAID Act, as amended, will read when it becomes effective on August 5, 2026.  The document merges the initial 2025 MAID Act with the  2026 amendments required by Governor Hochul.  

Also included is a redlined version of the MAID Act that shows the amendments.
